Aviation Cadet Ervin C. Ethell, Class of 41-1 is honing his aerobatic skills with a barrel roll over the Luke Field, Arizona practice area. Luke Field was one of the US Army Air Force’s key training bases during World War II, serving both as an Advanced Flying school and as the Fighter Transition School for newly graduated second lieutenants. North American Aviation’s AT-6 served in both schools, and it was generally agreed that if a pilot could master the marvelous “Six,” he could learn to fly anything.
