At 10:56 PM on 20 July 1969, Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong stepped from the ladder of the lunar landing module and became the first man to walk on the moon.

At 10:56 PM on 20 July 1969, Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong stepped from the ladder of the lunar landing module and became the first man to walk on the moon. 15 minutes after Armstrong set foot on the moon he was followed by Edwin E. Aldrin as Michael Collins continued to orbit the moon alone in the command module. Real time television made the entire world a witness, from launch July 16 to splashdown eight days later.
