Michael Collins’ Apollo 11 Command Module, “Columbia”, in close proximity to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in Lunar Module, “Eagle”, prior to their descent to man’s first landing on the moon at 10:56 PM Eastern Daylight time on 20 July 1969. Astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped from the ladder of the lunar landing module to the surface of the moon to become the first man to walk on the moon. 15 minutes after Armstrong set foot on the moon, he was followed by Edwin E. Aldrin as Michael Collins continued to orbit the moon alone in the command module. Real time television made the entire world a witness, from the Cape Canaveral launch pad on July 16 to splashdown eight days later.
