Description
Thunderbird Take Off was completed after the artist first tour with the USAF Thunderbirds in the 1960s as a civilian USAF Artist. He wanted to capture the thrill of the thundering formation take-off he witnessed at Nellis AFB. The vantage point for this painting is 25 feet above the runway and 45 feet in front of the lead aircraft. Like the artist said, “this is the only way to convey the excitement that he experienced was from within the Demonstration”. Some might recognize the runway at Nellis AFB. This painting was Donated to the USAF Art Collection in 1963. The lead was Major Ed Palmgren, we lost Ed in Vietnam flying the F-111.
