Boeing 727
Eight years after the design studies began, the Boeing 727 entered service with Eastern Air Lines on 1 February 1964.
The Boeing 727 entered service with Eastern Air Lines on 1 February 1964 just eight years after design studies began. Almost one year to the day after its first flight, the Boeing 727 entered service with Eastern Airlines. The 727 was a Boeing Company project, one of the last commercial aircraft to start life without airline or government financial support. It was produced to provide airlines with a profitable vehicle for shorter stage lengths, yet allowing large capacity with short field landing and takeoff capabilities.*
